Yes it is broccoli time. And it looks like the plants will even be giving us nice "side shoot" production. All of these broccoli heads are side shoots because you can see the spot in the middle where we have already harvested the main head.

Carrots are here. Our hours of hoeing, flameweeding, hand-weeding and thinning our carrot beds are starting to pay-off.
Don't forget...Come join us for a potluck dinner on the farm on Sunday June 30. Dinner starts at 5:30 bring a dish to pass and one to eat from if you can.  We'll have farm tours, a scavenger hunt and some farm Olympics!  Come see your food in the field.

come see the farm!

Walnut trees are killing our cherry tomatoes. We thought the trees were far enough away, and they have been up until now, but apparently the roots have been encroaching into our hoophouse. The trees are about 50 feet away. Guess we are going to have to cut at least some of them down.
Plastic as far as the eye can see. As organic farmers we end up having to use quite a bit of plastic. These tarps are helping kill weeds in advance of transplanting our winter squash.
Beds prepared for later plantings and newly installed bean trellises for beans we are growing for Fruition Seeds.

Flail mowing the clover cover crop. These fields will subsoiled, rototilled and tarped to prepare for our late season plantings of carrots, beets, radishes, kale, etc.
We haven't grown celery in years for several reasons: the celery we have grown has been more bitter and fibrous than what our customers are accustomed to, it is unpredictable because it sometimes bolts, and it was one of our least profitable crops. But these were one of those winter-time impulse buys while perusing seed catalogues. We got two varieties, Chinese Pink and Chinese White, from Baker Creek Seeds. They are supposed to be small, "bunching" types. We just transplanted them two days ago. We'll see how they do...
