This is what we saw when we went to play pickleball last night. The fire is burning hay bales in the Coverall barn at Mansfield Farm. This is the farm we get kiwiberries and grape juice from. I think they lost the hay, the cover of the barn and maybe a tractor. Hopefully everything was insured.

this week the fennel all came out of the field, so it'll be topless from now on, it keeps until the end of december and is done storing right around new years, so eat lots until then, try this fennel apple salad recipe.

thinly slice two fennel bulbs and two apples, add a shallot or half a red onion.  

raisin plumped in red wine (cup or raisins simmered in a cup of red wine)

two clementines sectioned into segments and a simple vinegrette

(olive oil, soy sauce, lime juice, maple syrup, mustard, salt and pepper to taste)

toss all together and enjoy!

We had two large spruce trees removed from our front yard this week. One of them died last year and one had its top blown out and had been struck by lightning a few times so it was in rough shape. We plan to replace them with a couple sugar maples.
