As stated in our previous post, our dog Luna died earlier this year. We could not stay without dogs very long. So we have two new friends living with us - Bella (on the left) and Kennedy (right). If you have been up to the farm recently you know they love to bark at visitors so we are working with them on that issue. But they are friendly and love to play together.
These slow-growing celeriac plants were seeded over 2 months ago. They were just transplanted yesterday and they will grow all summer before being harvested September - November.
Rows of just-planted and watered bean seeds.
There are so many nests around the farm right now.
Liz has been spending much of her time on the prone weeder using it to transplant. She is very proud because it is always our goal to get all the main transplanting done before markets start in June. I don't think we have ever done it before. But she transplanted the celeriac yesterday and that was the last major crop to get in the ground! Now onto using it mostly for what it is named for - weeding!

We miss our good friend Luna. She died a few weeks ago of a suspected brain tumor. We had a nice funeral for her with family and friends (picture below). She was still full of energy and love of life and it is tough going into spring without her because she loved the warm weather so much.

Finishing up winter projects like moving and repairing hoophouses

Beans sprouting

It has been hard losing Luna. We could not go without having a dog here on the farm very long. Last week we welcomed a young dog named Kennedy to Muddy Fingers. As you can she has already become quite a "farm dog".

Up until our dog Gemini died almost 2 years ago we had had 2 dogs for quite a while. So now we decided to go from no dogs to 2 dogs again. The dog on the left is Bella. She is 5 months old and we are planning to adopt her today. As you can see, when she and Kennedy met they got along famously.

Late winter is our time to reorganize. Here we moved our tools and workbench to the back of our washbarn. This will be a much brighter, spacious place for tool storage.

Well, we made it to the last week of winter CSA. We apologize again this year for the lack of salad greens. It is always our goal to have at least one type of salad green available each week but again this year that has not been possible.
We will appreciate the time off from marketing and CSA for a few months. March will hopefully be quiet on the farm aside from starting trays of plants in the greenhouse. Then things really get going once the soil dries out in April. Check back for occasional updates over the next few months.
