We are doing our best right now to stay on top of the mowing and weed elimination. Most of the planting is done for now and with all the rain we are devoting much of our time to keeping the weeds at bay. The leaf miners (a little fly) have been destroying the chard. With that and the disease pressure brought on by all this rain, we have been resorting to using more organic sprays than usual.

The farm is looking pretty good. Many of our fall crops have already been planted. If you are wondering where our onions and potatoes are, they seem to have been negatively affected by the cool, wet spring. Most of our onions are severely stunted and many of our early potatoes rotted in the ground. The potatoes we do have are also late in maturing. I think we will harvest the first variety of garlic this week.

We were planning on not getting baby chicks this year, but we changed our minds. We learned that Luna could get into the little coop we built for them. She got in there and just stared at them creepily.

 We have lost many chickens lately to an owl. We have been moving them frequently to deter the owl. Not sure what we are going to do if it continues to be a problem. We did order a new batch of chicks, though. They should be arriving this week.

 Field peas, oats and vetch cover crop with part tarped to eliminate weeds. Fall and winter crops like carrots, beets, watermelon radishes and turnips will be planted here in the coming weeks. Gemini enjoying a puddle drink.

This Friday, June 30, we will have a potluck event on the farm. The farm is in full swing and its been a while since we have had an event. Come see baby goats, lightning bugs, smell the chocolatey beet flowers, feed the chickens, taste the first few ripe cherry tomatoes. We will start at 6:00. Bring a dish to pass and one to eat from.
